Shakawath Hossain reappointed as CEO of Unique Hotel & Resorts
Shakawath Hossain has been reappointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC, the owning company of the Westin Dhaka, Sheraton Dhaka and HANSA, a premium residence.
He is the youngest professional in the industry to be assigned in such a role to manage three leading hotel brands in Bangladesh as the CEO, Unique Hotel said in a statement today.
Hossain is a veteran contributor and leader in Bangladesh’s hospitality and tourism industry.
He has over 20 years of experience working in multiple leadership roles in the Marriott International and Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
He was also appointed as the youngest resident manager by Marriott International for the Westin Dhaka.
There he played the role of the general manager and led the team to generate the highest revenue and also win multiple international and local awards for the hotel from 2017 till 2019.
For his superlative contribution, he was appointed as the CEO of Unique Hotel & Resorts PLC back in 2019.
In 2020, he left his role to accept a new challenge to join StarkTree Group, a private sector high potential conglomerate, as its CEO.
At the Westin Dhaka, Hossain was also the first Bangladeshi national who worked three years in various leadership positions — resident manager, director of operations, director of rooms and director of operational excellence.
Under his supervision, the Westin Dhaka became the top three hotels in the region in terms of ADR and RevPAR in Asia Pacific.
He introduced many sustainable business practices which enhanced revenue generation, cost savings and increased guest and associate satisfaction.
During his tenure at the Westin, he showed his successful leadership ability in various capacities, which include revenue management, operations management, resource development, process development and hotel pre-opening management along with having a sound knowledge about the overall market, including competitors’ strengths, economic trends, supply and demand.
He has won many accolades throughout his career for achieving exceptional results and recently he was honoured with the Asian Curry Award 2021, for his impactful contribution, influence and leadership in the industry.
The Curry Award is an exclusive International accolade awarded by Asian Catering Federation, UK for outstanding achievements and contribution in the national and global hospitality industry.
He also holds a master’s degree in business administration in tourism and hospitality from the University of Dhaka.
